"Promise?" - "Comforter?"

God's plan is not for you to get into heaven, God's plan is for Him to live in you.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost. John 20:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith... Galatians 5:22

  • Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind blows where it will, and you hear the sound, but can't tell where it comes from, or where it goes; so is every one that is born of the Spirit. John 3:5-7

  • And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, "The kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:20-21

  • For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Romans 14:17

  • Who was the "Comforter" Jesus talked about when He said: And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever." and "It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."

  • What was the "promise" Jesus told His disciples to wait for? "And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry you in the city of Jerusalem, until you be endued with power from on high." Luke 24:49

  • Why was one of the last things Jesus said to His followers: "...wait for the promise of the Father..." Read John 14-16 and then read Acts 1-2.

  • See Baptism in the Holy Spirit

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but ye know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. ...Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. John 14:16-20, 23-28

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:4-5

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. John 15:11

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. John 16:7-14

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Romans 14:17

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, "The kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:20-21

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27

A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you. John 16:21-22

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Philippians 4:4-9

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 1 Peter 1:8

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3

Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and says unto them, Peace be unto you. And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and says unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: John 20:19-22

The Legend of the Cherokee Indian's Rite of Passage - His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he is a man. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blew the grass and earth, and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!    Finally, after a horrific night, the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him. He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm. God is beside us as well.

The Real Reason Jesus Sent the Holy Spirit - By SAMUEL RODRIGUEZ - Acts 2:14 says, "Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd:"  This passage represents a lot more than the normative description regarding the occurrences of that blessed day. This Scripture actually speaks to the catalytic macro-metric of a Spirit-filled encounter.  It provides the prescription for the church in our troubled times.  In other words, the fact that it was Peter who stood up and raised his voice should compel us. The same Peter that, before the cross and the upper room, fell in the water and was now standing up. It was the same Peter that hid from the crowd in denial of Jesus.

... Saints, listen carefully. Today's complacency is tomorrow's captivity. There is no such thing as comfortable Christianity. Let me be clear today.  The Spirit did not come so we could stay seated. The Spirit did not come so we can be complacent.  The Spirit did not come down so we can sing "Kumbaya." The Holy Spirit came down so we can get up.  He came down so we can go from ... Natural existence to supernatural living; from "I am OK" to "I am more than a conqueror"; from surviving to thriving; from making excuses to making history ...

...We are here filled not with emotion, constructs or religious paradigms, but with the Holy Spirit of God. Guess what the church guess will do next? Stand up! Why? It's because we are not just any people. We are not Google, we are not Apple, we are not Ford, we are not even Starbucks.  We are the church of Jesus Christ. We are the bride. We are a Spirit-empowered ekklesia. And the gates of hell shall not, cannot, will not and may not prevail against us!  ...There is no such thing as silent Christianity. There is no such thing as Christianity on mute. There is no such thing as a silent Pentecostal. A silent Pentecostal is an oxymoron on steroids.

Romans 8 (One New Man Bible) - 1. There is therefore now no condemnation for those in Messiah Y’shua: (Isaiah 50:9)

2. for the Torah (Teaching) of the spirit of life in Messiah Y’shua set you free from the law of sin and death.

3. For what was impossible for the law by which it was weak because of the resistance of the flesh, God, when He
sent His own Son in a likeness of sinful flesh and, concerning sin, God was condemning sin in the flesh,

4. so that the requirement of the Torah (Teaching) could be fulfilled in us, by those who walk not according
to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5. For those who are flesh are thinking the things of the flesh, but those according to the Spirit are thinking the things of the Spirit.

6. For the mind-set, thoughts and purposes, of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace:

7. because the mind-set of the flesh is enmity to God, for it is not subject to the Torah (Teaching)1 of God, nor is it really able to
submit to God:

8. and those who are in the flesh are not able to please God.

9. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if someone does not have the Spirit of Messiah, this one is not His.

10. And if Messiah is in you, on the one hand your body is dead because of sin, but on the other hand the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

11. And if the Spirit of the One Who raised Y’shua from the dead dwells in you, the One Who raised Messiah from the dead will also make
alive your mortal bodies through His Spirit because He abides within you.

12. So then, brothers, we are obligated not to live according to the flesh,

13. for if you would live according to flesh, you are going to die: but if you are dead to the deeds of the body, you will live by the Spirit.

14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the children of God.

15. For you did not take a spirit of bondage again in fear, but to Whom you took a spirit of adoption as children we cry, “Av,
Father.”

16. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

17. And if children, then we are heirs: indeed heirs of God, and fellow-heirs of Messiah, provided that we suffer together to the end so that we would also be glorified together.

18. For I consider that the sufferings of the present time are not comparable to the glory about to be revealed in us.

19. For the eager and persistent expectation of all creation awaits diligently and patiently the revelation of the children of God, which is on Judgment Day.

20. Because creation was subjected to frustration, not voluntarily, but because of the One Who made creation subject, upon hope

21. that also this creation will be set free from the bondage of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of
God.

22. For we know that all creation groans together and travails together until now:

23. and not only that, but also those of us who have the First Fruits of the Spirit, then we are sighing in ourselves diligently and patiently awaiting adoption, the redemption of our body.

24. Because we have been delivered by hope: but hope being seen is not hope: for who hopes for what he sees?

25. But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly await through perseverance.

26. And likewise also the Spirit helps together with us in our weakness: for we do not know what we should pray according to what is needed, but the Spirit Himself intercedes in unutterable groanings:

27. and the One Who searches our hearts knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because He intercedes with God on behalf of the saints.

28. And we know that, for those who love God, He works all things for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

29. Because whom He knew beforehand, He appointed ahead of time, because they have the same form of the likeness of His Son, for He was Firstborn among many brothers: (Matthew 12:50; 13:55, Mark 6:3, et. al.)

30. and whom He appointed beforehand, He also called: and whom He called, He also made righteous: and these whom He made  righteous, He also glorified.

31. Then what will we say pertaining to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32. He in fact did not spare His own Son but gave Him over on behalf of us all, then how will He not freely give us all things with Him?

33. Who will accuse against the chosen people of God? God is the righteous One:

34. who is the one who condemns? Certainly not Messiah Y’shua the One Who died, but rather, has risen, and Who is on the right hand of God, and Who is interceding on our behalf.

35. What will separate us from the love of the Messiah? Affliction or distress or persecution or famine or destitution or peril or death by
sword?

36. Just as it has been written that “Because of You we are put to death the whole day, we were counted as sheep for the slaughter.” (Psalms 44:23)

37. But in all these things we would have a glorious victory through the One Who loved us.

38. For I have been persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor rulers nor present circumstances nor things
coming nor powers

39. nor height nor depth nor any other creation will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Messiah Y’shua our Lord

Challenge 7 - "Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?"

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, says he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:4-8

See Acts Chapter 2 for the fulfillment of the "Promise" and the "Comforter."

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Acts 8:14-20

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly; Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. Acts 10:34-48

And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? Acts 11:15-17

And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, you know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knows the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Acts 15:7-9

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. Acts 19:2-7

See also the following Scriptures concerning the Spirit. - Romans 8:1-17, 1 Corinthians 15:35-58, Galatians 5:16-26, Galatians 6:8

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fullness of him that fills all in all. Ephesians 1:17-23
