And so, to give just one example, out of empathy, many teens will instinctively defend a trans-identified peer, not realizing that this peer is about to destroy his or her life via chemical castration and genital mutilation. Their empathy in the short-term actually contributes to their friend's long-term pain.

     ...Our children are captive to an educational system that embraces hard-left ideology and rejects all else. In many respects, the prevalent viewpoints held by American educators are out of step with mainstream American thinking and yet are likely to have outsized influence on formative young minds. The sharp political tilt of American public education is undeniable. About 90% of American elementary and secondary school students go to public schools; 70% of American school teachers are unionized, and of those, about 90% are affiliated with either the National Education Association (NEA) or the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). These are labor unions — the NEA is the largest labor union in the United States — and labor unions are traditionally and overwhelmingly Democrat. Nearly all teachers union political support (94% of NEA and AFT contributions) go to Democrat candidates, and in return they are supported — and funded — by Democrat lawmakers.
     ...Nor does it stop there. Higher education is notoriously progressive as well. Ours has become a one-dimensional education system, from top to bottom. Without a doubt, the unions' leftward political allegiances ultimately influence what students learn about today's controversial issues. LGTBQ adherents, for example, are a political constituency.
     ...So how do we avoid my nightmare scenario of a next generation stuck in a one-dimensional worldview? A few thoughts come to mind:
     1.) School choice is an obvious answer, providing parents realistic alternatives and putting in place meaningful competition among education providers.
     2.) The role of teachers unions is to protect the interests of their members, NOT to achieve their preferred political ideology. As in other fields, unions that lose perspective in that respect will ultimately lose traction.
     3.) Balance in education is critical. There's nothing wrong with teachers presenting their own views (progressive or not) on controversial current issues, provided they present the counterviews as well. Parents and boards must insist on that.
     4.) One non-negotiable element: teachers must provide honest, open, and full disclosure to parents on all matters affecting children's mental and physical health.
     5.) Disagreement with progressive views on LGBTQ or other matters should never open the door to prejudicial behavior. Educators and parents alike must teach our children to respect the views of others, whether we agree with them or not.
     6.) Boards of Education serve as the bridge between teachers and parents and between schools and the teachers unions. Board membership is not a symbolic position — boards must be actively engaged, open, and responsive, and voters must hold them to it.

Selling a million copies a year for over 100 years, McGuffey's Readers were the mainstay of public education in America. Generations of school children read them, making them some of the most influential books of all time. They were written by William McGuffey, who died MAY 4, 1873. A professor at the University of Virginia and president of Ohio University, he began one of nation's first teachers' associations. In the foreword of McGuffey's Reader, 1836, he wrote: "The Christian religion is the religion of our country. From it are derived our prevalent notions of the character of God, the great moral governor of the universe. On its doctrines are founded the peculiarities of our free institutions." In McGuffey's 5th Eclectic Reader, 1879, is a lesson by William Ellery Channing, titled Religion The Only Basis of Society: "How powerless conscience would become without the belief of a God...Erase all thought and fear of God from a community, and selfishness and sensuality would absorb the whole man. Appetite, knowing no restraint...would trample in scorn on the restraints of human laws... Man would become...what the theory of atheism declares him to be-a companion for brutes."  

 

On September 21, 1924, America's 30th President, Calvin Coolidge, addressed the Holy Name Society in Washington, D.C., saying:  "The worst evil that could be inflicted upon the youth of the land would be to leave them without restraint and completely at the mercy of their own uncontrolled inclinations. Under such conditions education would be impossible, and all orderly development intellectually or morally would be hopeless." Coolidge continued: "The Declaration of Independence...claims...the ultimate source of authority by stating...they were...'appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World for the rectitude of' their 'intentions.'... The foundations of our independence and our Government rests upon basic religious convictions. Back of the authority of our laws is the authority of the Supreme Judge of the World, to whom we still appeal." President Coolidge concluded: "It seems to me perfectly plain that the authority of law, the right to equality, liberty and property, under American institutions, have for their foundation reverence for God. If we could imagine that to be swept away, these institutions of our American government could not long survive."

But you can release kids from school. They have to be offsite, they have to have parental permission, and it has to cost a taxpayer no money, so no tax dollars.”
     “We’re teaching other people how to do this around the country, so we are teaching moms, dads to build teams,” she said. “It’s a community approach in their school district. We teach them how we have curriculum. We have everything they need. We have a toolbox. We have everything they need and we teach them how to do this in their own school district.”

A Christian actor and author, Cameron said in a recent interview with Tony Perkins on “Washington Watch,” “If we don’t stand for the basic building blocks of the family and the distinction between male and female, what will we stand for? And if we won’t stand for the responsibility to protect the hearts and minds of our children — of our toddlers, then when will we ever stand?” Christians, let’s not stand on the sidelines of the public square and complain about what is happening in our schools and society. Instead, let’s take action and transform our culture for His glory.
